The Selby Netball, South Belgrave Football Netball and Belgrave Football Netball Clubs will be shooting more goals and growing its ranks with funding from the  Andrews Labor Government to provide a lighting upgrade at the Belgrave South Recreation Reserve Netball Facility.

Member for Monbulk, James Merlino today announced that the South Belgrave Recreation Reserve Netball Facility was among 25 sports facilities across Victoria to share in more than $2.2 million from the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program.

This program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and facilities for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria, so they can meet growing demand and welcome even more members.

It’s a partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to help football and netball clubs across the state, because everybody deserves equal facilities, no matter where they live.

Grants from the latest round include ground resurfacing, installation of lighting and the construction of new pavilions and netball courts.

In the Monbulk electorate we are delivering $30,000 to support South Belgrave Football Netball Club, Belgrave Football Netball Club and Selby Netball Club at Belgrave South Recreation Reserve Netball Facility for a lighting upgrade so more netballers can train after hours.

Labor first started the Country Football and Netball Program in 2005, and since, the program has delivered more than $26.5 million to over 470 projects across rural Victoria.

The funding is part of the Andrews Government’s strong commitment to community sport and active recreation, and to encourage all Victorians to get out there and get active.

That’s why we’ve already invested $420 million since coming to office in community sport and recreation facilities including local and regional sports grounds, leisure facilities, parks, playgrounds and trails.

That’s why we’re investing almost half a billion dollars in our 2018/19 Budget to ensure sport and active recreation goes from strength to strength.

Quotes attributable to Member for Monbulk, James Merlino

“Footy and netball clubs are the heart and soul of the Monbulk electorate. This boost will go a long way to helping the local Netball Clubs cater for the growing numbers of people keen to get involved in grassroots sport, providing more opportunities for locals to get active and play the sport they love.”
