The Andrews Labor Government will build a new park with a playscape and sports oval at the old Olinda Golf Course, giving families a great place to enjoy the outdoors.

Member for Monbulk James Merlino today announced that the Victorian Budget 2017/18 is investing to create more opportunities for families to get active in Victorian parks.

We know local parks are a hive of activity, and we’re giving more locals the safe, modern and inclusive facilities they deserve to stay fit and healthy.

As part of this funding, we will transform a former 34ha golf course in Olinda into a new public park . Key features will be park infrastructure, an oval and sports facilities as well as a state of the art playscape.

This $4.47 million Andrews Labor Government commitment means a wide range of new facilities such as tracks and trails, community BBQs, shelters, seating, gardens, landscaping, and car parking.

The 18-hole golf course closed in 2012 and was the former home of the Olinda Golf Club. The site is situated on the Olinda-Monbulk Road, Olinda adjacent to the National Rhododendron Gardens and RJ Hamer Arboretum, and only 500 metres south of the Olinda Township.

The local community, businesses and visitors, working with Yarra Ranges Council and Parks Victoria, have played a key role in shaping the vision for the park.
