NEW FIRE STATION AT SELBY OFFICIALLY OPEN

A new state-of-the-art CFA station has officially opened in Selby, providing stronger emergency services for the community and better facilities for firefighters.

Representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville, Deputy Premier and Member for Monbulk James Merlino joined firefighters and community members to officially open the $1.2 million station today.

Mr Merlino thanked local volunteers for their ongoing work and support to the Dandenong Ranges community over the brigade’s 93-year history.

The Andrews Labor Government funded the project, courtesy of its $60 million Fire Services Statement, while the brigade contributed approximately $11,000.

The station provides firefighters with a new facility to support the Dandenong Ranges community, which is a high-risk fire area.

The new building includes three bays for the brigade’s vehicles, separate male and female change areas, breathing apparatus washroom, and a workshop.

The larger station not only provides better emergency services for the community, but supports a safer environment for volunteers, with more space around vehicles and equipment, and office facilities separate from the engine bay.

The larger, better-equipped station also gives Selby CFA more opportunity to educate the community on fire safety and prevention.

It also gives volunteer firefighters more space to run training sessions and host community groups.

The Selby Fire Brigade has been proudly protecting lives and property in Selby and the wider Dandenong Ranges area since 1926.

The brigade’s 49 dedicated members responded to 30 call outs last year, including residential and industrial fires, grass fires and car accidents.
