Minister Unveils WW1 Mural In Lilydale

Thursday 09 April 2015

The mural follows the story of Mr Goode, who was present for the Gallipoli landings and fought on the Western Front, before returning to Lilydale and becoming a prominent local figure.

Students worked with Yarra Valley artist Brad Colling to create the mural.

Students have also prepared digital content on an accompanying App – Aurasma – including readings of Mr Goode’s letters to his family during the war.

The Victorian Veterans Council provided funding through an Anzac Centenary Community Grant for the mural.

Quotes attributable to Education Minister, James Merlino

“The Anzac Centenary is a time to reflect upon the spirit of those Australians who gave their lives in service to our country. We should always share their stories, and remember their fairness and courage.

“This mural will be a memorial to those who served Australia in the Great War, and a fitting tribute to one of Lilydale’s most well-known figures.”
