The Andrews Labor Government has secured the future of the Olinda Pool, delivering $500,000 in the Victorian Budget to repair and reopen the iconic community favourite.

The Olinda Pool has a rich history spanning five decades, but it faced an uncertain future under the previous Liberal Government and the Yarra Ranges Council’s unwillingness to commit to badly-needed repairs after it closed the pool down. The Labor Government has delivered on its election commitment and saved the pool.

This development includes the development of a community playground, which will ensure the precinct is used all year round. Parks and playgrounds are where children often get their first taste of physical activity, as well as important socialisation skills.

The funding is from the Labor Government’s $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which will upgrade sport and recreation facilities and promote health and wellbeing for all Victorians.

Member for Monbulk, James Merlino paid tribute to the concerted community campaign, led by Friends of the Olinda Pool Group. The Yarra Ranges Council has also subsequently committed to repairing and reopening the Olinda Pool.
