Former School Site In Nunawading To Be Put To Community Use
Minister for Education, James Merlino, today welcomed the announcement that the former Nunawading Primary School site has been sold for community use.
The City of Whitehorse this week announced it would transform the site into the Nunawading Community Hub.
This followed the Council’s purchase of the site from the Department of Education and Training on a restricted community-use basis. Contracts for the sale of the site were exchanged earlier this week.
The Government’s election commitment to put a 12-month moratorium on the sale of the site was repealed in the interests of the Council securing the site for community use.
The site has been vacant since the end of the 2011 school year, when the campus closed as part of the merger process which led to the creation of Whitehorse Primary School.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Education, James Merlino:
“We know the community wanted clarity on the future of the former Nunawading Primary School site, which is why the Andrews Labor Government worked to ensure a prompt resolution to negotiations with the local Council.”
“I’m sure families throughout Whitehorse will be thrilled that the site has been retained for open space and as a community hub.”
