COMMUNITY TO BENEFIT FROM OLINDA GOLF COURSE PROPOSAL

The site has been vacant for a number of years after the former tenant defaulted on their lease. Prior to that, the site had operated as an 18 hole golf course. Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, Lisa Neville, met Deputy Premier and Member for Monbulk James Merlino on site today, to discuss future uses of the site. The Expression of Interest process stipulated that alternate uses of the site need to provide the community with a valuable recreational or tourism facility that enhances the natural and environmental appeal.  This is consistent with the reservation status for the land, the planning scheme and associated overlays Quotes attributable to Labor Member for Monbulk, James Merlino “This is an attractive site which has great potential to be reinvigorated into a vibrant place for locals and visitors.” “It is feasible that the 3 hectares is annexed and managed by Yarra Ranges Council to provide additional recreational facilities, while still allowing a commercial operator to lease the remainder of the site.” “The local community are passionate about the place and their views have been considered in this latest proposal.” “New recreational facilities will be a great thing for the local community, and securing a new commercial operator would be a good outcome rather than have this valuable facility lie vacant.” Quotes attributable to Minister for Environment, Lisa Neville “Parks Victoria is currently conducting an Expression of Interest process for a commercial lease of the former golf course.” “Following interest by the local community to use part of the site for an off lead dog walking area and new sports oval, Parks Victoria are proposing to annexe 3 hectares of the site for these uses.” “The 3 hectares identified would still enable consideration of a commercial lease for the remainder of the site.” 153004 NEVILLE olinda HM
