Building The Education State In Geelong
The Andrews Labor Government’s first Education State Budget is rebuilding schools in Geelong and giving its students the best start in life.
Minister for Education, James Merlino, today visited Geelong to officially announce a total of $23 million for three schools, secured in the 2015-16 Victorian Budget.
$5 million for Whittington Primary School will fund the modernisation of the school, including new classrooms.
Mr Merlino also used his visit to Whittington Primary to mark a $12 million boost to Geelong High School – which will fund new classrooms and the modernisation of the school’s hospitality, arts, administration and toilet facilities.
Northern Bay College is another budget winner, with $6 million to continue the college’s regeneration at the Tallis Street P-8 Campus and Peacock Avenue P-8 Campus.
The Budget invests close to $4 billion in Victoria’s education and skills system – it represents the single biggest boost to education funding in Victoria’s history.
It provides $325 million to renovate, refurbish or rebuild 67 schools – 21 in regional Victoria.
It includes $120 million to build and upgrade Catholic and Independent schools across the state, including those in regional Victoria.
The Budget will also fund the first stage of an extensive asbestos removal program so that families can be assured their children are being educated in safe schools.
