Building The Education State In Bendigo
Students in Bendigo are a step closer to having the facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s investment of more than $22 million in local schools.
Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan today visited Epsom Primary School and Spring Gully Primary School to meet staff and students and discuss plans to upgrade facilities.
Mr Merlino and Ms Allan unveiled designs for the $5.7 million upgrade to Epsom Primary School and announced plans to purchase another site to expand the size of the primary school.
The new building will replace existing portable classrooms and features open plan classrooms, new staff and administration facilities, art spaces, a library, multipurpose rooms, a netball court and new outdoor areas.
The school is now preparing to tender for a builder and the project is on track to open by the end of next year.
At Spring Gully Primary School, Mr Merlino and Ms Allan announced e+ architecture from Bendigo has been appointed to start planning the school’s upgrade for a new learning space and landscaping to create more open space.
Spring Gully Primary School was one of 35 Victorian schools to share in $12 million in the Victorian Budget 2016/17 to plan an upgrade, with the school due to meet the architect to start work on the plans this week.
Ten Bendigo schools will share in $22.2 million from the Labor Government’s record $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure in the past two Budgets, to build, upgrade and maintain schools across the state.
These projects will be delivered by the new Victorian School Building Authority, which has been set up to deliver school building projects faster and with more community involvement.
