Prior to his representative roles in Yarra Ranges Council and subsequently State Parliament, James’ community involvement began with the community house sector. James was a member of the Committee of Management for Morrison House in Mt Evelyn for many years. He continues to value and advocate for our wonderful community houses.
James played junior football with Kilsyth Football Club (not well) and played indoor soccer and mixed netball for many years. As the local MP, James supports many local sporting clubs in the region.
James is an active supporter of the RSL, particularly Monbulk and Upwey sub-branches. Check out our newest tourist icon in the hills – the fantastic Leopard Tank at Upwey RSL. Passionate about the arts in the Dandenongs, James was a key supporter of the development of a purpose built performing arts centre at Burrinja in Upwey. He secured $3m from the Bracks Labor Government to help make this magnificent new facility a reality.
Protecting and enhancing the environment has been a priority for James throughout his public life. He was heavily involved in the campaign to stop the expansion of Montrose Quarry, secured funding to combat weeds in the Dandenongs and supported the green wedge protection for the Dandenongs and the Yarra Valley. He continues to advocate strongly for the environment.
